The murals of BrokenCrow

I heard about broken crow while writing my review of P.O.S - Never better. BrokenCrow is an art experiment that consists of John Grider and Mike Fitzsimmons. Their purpose is to bring Wild-life back to the urban community .

BrokenCrow has done murals in Duluth, Minnesota .Milwaukee, Wisconsin. St. Paul, Minnesota. Brooklyn, New York and many others. They have brought life and color to the grayest of urban wastelands and have even done murals on private houses. I wonder how the neighborhood committee felt about it?

What I like most about BrokeCrow's murals is how psychedelic they make the animals look. The blue monkey from the above picture to the red cheetah and of course the green Ram. the animals send you into a color high and  immediately transport you a faraway land where the rainbow porcupine roams(or is that a hedgehog?).

P.O.S Never better

P.O.S ignites the Hip-hop scene with their album "Never Better" , with 15 tracks and 55 and a half minutes of playing time. The album was released under Rhymesayers Entertainment. The album experiments with completely different genres and has a message most hip-hop albums lack."Never Better" is well worth the money and it certainly won't collect dust on your shelf or go unplayed on your Harddrive.

So when i got my hands on the album, I switched to a random song like i usually do. I selected a Song called "optimist" , It started with an interesting make-shift beat and then went into a series of "yea"'s with a soft upbeat sound. a few moments later Stefon Alexander began to rap and I knew I was going to love this song. After the chorus , Stefon began to sing very calmly with the soft beat(my favorite part). after the second chorus he goes in the opposite direction and screams that part witch i though was fantastic. The Song is my favorite on the album and its my favorite music video from P.O.S as well.

I then switched to the first song named "Let It Rattle" , I found the beginning to be a little uneasy with Stefon's raping and the beat. But the chorus of the song fits with the beat, From that point on the beat and Stefon's raping fits together nicely. I then switched to the second song "Drumroll" , immediately it turned into a fast paced rap , I thought Stefon really flexed his talent in speed in this song. The music video was really interesting and hectic as well. the third song "Savion Glover" is another fast paced rap. The beat sees to be constructed of synthesizers and turntable spins. And once again Stefon flex's his talent of speed, I thought the song was a little short but it is definitely not a filler. I really enjoyed the fourth song "purexed". I thought it was a very inspirational song witch seems to be very common thing in the Rhymesayers label, And it has a very original and great beat. I loved how they had the crackle effect as if it was on an old record player.

when i got to the fifth song "graves" I thought the beat and structure was that of a generic hip-hop song. Although the beat of the song is generic, I didn't think the lyrics to be generic at all. I'll admit i didn't like the song but its not a bad song. After that conclusion I went on the sixth song "Goodbye" , The chorus is
great and i thought Stefon synced perfectly with the beat. If i had To sum it up in one word, That word would be "perfect". the rhymes were complex and the message was clear. Next was "Get Smokes" , The beat was original but uneasy and Stefon's rhyming was uneasy. I Didn't care for it. That's all im going to say about that song. Next was "Been Afraid" and I loved its beat , it had an blues guitar in the beginning and some very original instruments and synthesizers. And with no surprise Stefons's lyrics and rhymes where amazing.

The ninth song to play , "Low Light Low Life" , was a little different but it wasn't bad I liked it but i thought the reason it wasn't great was that Stefon just didn't sync up with the beat. I came to the same conclusion with the tenth song "The Basics" , although i thought Stefon's rap synced well with the beat. The beat was just downright strange/annoying.

The eleventh song "Out of Category" was a great song , its everything a hip-hop song should be. The chorus had a loop free-styled by a turn-table , And the lyrics were deep and had a strong message, overall the song was great. The thirteenth song "Terrorish" was great , the beat was fast paced and all sorts of great sound effects added , The chorus was original and took a couple of listens to get to use to. the fourteenth song "Never better" is what makes the album a must buy. The beat sounds like most of the beats on the album but the lyrics are so original and being sung by Stefon makes them even better. Ive listen to the song over and over again and its still as good as the first time i heard it. And finally the last song "The Brave and the Snake" is the longest song and really seems like a bunch of different songs and the way they lead into each other is amazing. its the perfect way to end the album.

Buy P.O.S "never better"
